I am having so much fun shooting film again. I'm planning on working on a lot of personal projects this year, all in film. I have some great books that I'm reading (like Film Is Not Dead) that make me want to sell off all my digital equipment and only shoot film:) I have to remind myself to not get too excited because if I get into a photojournalism position I'll need my digital SLR:)

A New Season

As I'm finishing up school and trying to figure out where I really want to take my photography, I decided that some changes are in need. The biggest change is what services I will be offering. As I have gone through photography school I have found that my true love in photography lies in photojournalism, not portrait photography. I have mainly been doing portraits up to this point but now will be cutting back on them to focus my energy on photojournalism and personal projects. I have found with certain portraits I don't enjoy doing them and as soon as that happens the inspiration and motivation disappears. So I will no longer offer family pictures, and I will no longer offer weddings. What will I offer? I will offer to shoot couples, individuals, and events. Some examples of couples would be engagements sessions and bridals with both the bride and groom, anniversary sessions or just because! Individuals can be any type of individual; children, high school seniors (I love shooting high school seniors), someone who needs pictures for their blog or website, or bridals. These are just some examples.

Please note, if I have already schedules a session with you that I cutting out of my business I will absolutely be there and give you my best work.

Soon I will be updating my price list to be current with the portraits that I will be offering from this point on.

The Leonardo

In January Photowalking Utah held their event at the Leonardo Museum in downtown Salt Lake. The Leonardo was so wonderful in welcoming our very big group (well over 100 of us) and they also let us bring in our families. It was a great family outing for us.

Services for Officer Jared Francom

Last month I headed up to Ogden to cover the funeral services of Officer Jared Francom. He was killed while serving a drug related search warrant and five of his fellow officers were injured. Before heading to the cemetery I drove the route that the processional would take. The city of Ogden had American flags lining the street the entire way. There were also thousands of people who lined the streets to pay their respects and show support of the family that lost their husband and father. It was so touching to see everyone out there. I saw military, boy scouts and families that brought their children. A beautiful sight to see a community so united for a hero.

Walk Now For Autism Speaks

A few weeks ago I volunteered to be a photographer at the Walk Now For Autism Speaks event that was held at the Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy Utah. As some of you may know I'd like to take my career in the direction of documentary photography/photojournalism. I was excited to have the opportunity to volunteer and document an event that meant so much to so many people. It was so fun to see all the family and friends come together for their family members that suffer from autism. You could see so much love and pride in the parents faces as they walked with their children. I could tell that Utah has a great community to support those that deal with Autism.

There were lots of great activities for all the kids all done by volunteers

Then the walk started. I loved seeing all the teams and their team spirit.

Balloon Festival!

My family and I got up nice and early this morning to go to a local hot air balloon festival. These happen all over Utah in the summer time but I've never had the chance to make it to one before this morning. It was a lot of fun and my son especially loved it. I need to get some assignments done for school and this offered the perfect opportunity for that to happen. So here are some fun pictures for you to look at:)

My camera has in camera filters that I like to mess around with every once in a while. I put a vintage filter on two of the pictures above just for fun.

Chlesea and Clay's Anniversary!

I was excited that Chelsea and Clay wanted to do an anniversary session. They knew what they wanted and I knew the perfect location to accomplish the look they were hoping for. We had a great time taking the pictures and I love how they turned out.

The {P} Family

Had such a fun time with the P family out at Wheeler Farms. We are actually 2nd cousins so it was fun to get to spend some time together again. Their baby #2 is soon to arrive so we were sure to get lots of maternity pictures in. I had a bit of a hard time deciding which pictures to use so there are quite a few.

I love these next ones with their daughter and the bubbles.

These next ones are my favorite with their darling daughter running around in the background.

They were the ones to find this area and wondered if it would be good for the pictures. I loved the spot and this one is one of my favorites.

UVU Car Show

I had a lot of fun photographing all the amazing cars at the UVU Car Show. It brought back lots of memories of my 1954 Chevy 210 from high school.

Scott and Denise Engaged!

I was so excited to get to go home to Southern California and do Scott and Denise's engagement pictures. Denise and I have been really good friends since high school and I'm so happy for her and Scott. They are such a fun and sweet couple! We shot the pictures at the Irvine Regional Park and there were so many great locations.

Photowalking Utah-Studio Lighting

Two post back to back! Unheard of normally but I had two events this past week. This past Saturday I went to the Photowalking Utah's Studio Lighting event and it was a blast. They had so many great studio set ups and I got to meet some great people. I also discovered a delicious pizza joint here in Draper and pizza always makes me happy:) All the model's had their make up done by Laa Hernando-Guanzo.

I really loved this set up with the rain. I regret not taking more pictures here. When I went back to get more the line was really long.

These next pictures were taken in a natural light studio with the help of reflectors.

This "stadium light" set up was my absolute favorite! I'm really happy with how these pictures turned out.

Get Schooled Workshop

Last week I had the amazing opportunity to attend the Get Schooled Workshop that is done by Julie Parker. I really learned so much from her and it was so great to watch such a great photographer working with clients. It was a really fun two days and I got to meet some great people. This first couple was so much fun to photograph. It was the shoot that I was most looking forward too and all I can say it wow! The couple is gorgeous! The styling was awesome and the hair and makeup were amazing. The hair and makeup were done by Stephanie Brinkerhoff. She also did the other model that under this couple. Check out her site here!

The next model is actually Julie Parker's daughter and she is so beautiful! I loved the stars hanging from the tree.

Mission San Jose

At the beginning of the month I was able to travel to Texas to see my two sisters in San Antonio. While there we went to go visit one of the missions. There are five missions in San Antonio. They start with the Alamo and continue down the river about 1-2 miles apart from each other. Here are some pictures I took while there.

The Land of Make Believe

I grew up in California right next to Disneyland and was well familiar with the magic of the place. Now that I've been to Disney World I can tell you both are magical and pretty amazing. I'm really amazed with Walt Disney and his imagination. While in Orlando I thought the EPCOT Center would be lame because I knew there were very few rides there, but I was so wrong. The EPCOT is home to the World Showcase full of little villages from countries around the world. I absolutely loved it! We made a special trip back just so I could take a bunch of pictures. You really feel like you are in a different part of the world when you are walking around. I really enjoyed the village of Morocco so we'll start off there. And this post is going to be long:)

Back in November my husband and I took a trip to Orlando Florida. I'm sure you guessed that we spent some time at Disney World. One of the theme parks in Disney World is the Animal Kingdom where you can go on a safari ride. It was fun to have the opportunity to get all these pictures and I hope you enjoy. Last year I bought myself a used road bike. The person I bought it from was leaving the state and also needed to get rid of their pet fish. I suddenly found myself saying I'd take them and was heading home with a new bike and three pet fish. Not sure why I said yes but I guess I felt like I was helping out. I tried with all my might to keep those little guys alive! I even asked around to see if someone better equipped for fish would take them. Needless to say they didn't survive. I felt horrible and decided right there that fish are better for eating. Not because I don't like pet fish but because I can't keep them alive. That being said I have a great fish recipe for you:) Is this too cruel? Sharing that story and then giving you a recipe? I really like finding new recipes to try and I especially like to share them if they are good. So you might see one pop up on here every once in a while. We really like tilapia but you can use whatever type of fish you'd like.

Oven Baked Tilapia
2 lbs fresh fish
1/2 c. skim milk
3/4 c. bread crumbs
3 tbsp. butter, melted
1 tsp paprika

Wash and dry fillets with paper towels. Melt butter. Spray baking pan with lite Pam. Preheat oven to 500 degrees. Dip fillets in skim milk and then in crumbs. Place fillets in pan, right side up (not touching if possible). Pour melted butter over fillets and sprinkle with paprika. Place in oven and bake, uncovered, 10 to 12 minutes until fish flakes when touched with fork. Serve with lemon wedges.

I always serve the tilapia with rice and a veggie. It's so quick and easy! I hope you enjoy it!

The Anderson Family

I was excited to get to so some pictures for my neighbors. We did these on the top of the Salt Lake City Library which hold sentimental value for the Andersons. It is were they were married and they wanted to go back with their family. On a side note it was my first time to the city library and it is such a cool building! One you need to check out if you haven't been there. I tired a few different actions on these pictures. Whenever I do play around a lot with pictures (like I did on these) I also give the customer much more mellow and normal pictures so they have the choice of which ones to print.

The Most Wonderful Time of The Year!

It's hard not to catch the spirit of this time of year. The music, the decorations and even the shopping:) One of my favorite things about the holidays is sending and receiving Christmas cards. I grew up in California and now live in Utah. I love to send Christmas cards each year so all my old friends can see my family growing. Plus everyone loves to receive mail! Last year I used Shutterfly for my Christmas cards and I will be using them again this year. As a photographer I take many family pictures this time of year but I don't offer card designs myself. Shutterfly is a great option that I highly recommend! Check out their Christmas photo cards here. Their Holiday cards are here. There are sooo many options and really something for everyone. Last year we wore brown in our pictures and I was able to find a cream colored card that worked perfectly with our outfits.They have cards for lots of pictures or just one. It's hard to pick a favorite but I really love this one. I tend to like things more simple.

But if your year is going like mine(I haven't taken my own family pictures yet) you might need to send out a New Years Card instead:) You can find those here. I think it's such a fun idea and it might be fun to be a little nontraditional. This one would work perfect for the outfits I have in mind.

You might also consider getting a few Christmas gifts from Shutterfly as well. What grandparent doesn't love to get pictures of their grand kids? Here are some desk calenders that they would love. I'm very excited to get my cards ready and sent out! Check out Shutterfly and you won't be disappointed!

Cade is 18 Months!

My darling little boy is getting so grown up. I wanted to wait until after his eye surgery to do his 18 month pictures so that he would have straight eyes. His eyes look so great and we are so happy that his second surgery has seemed to do the trick.

Also really love this one in black and white.

I was amazed that he kind of cooperated with me. Normally he's pretty dramatic when we try to do pictures but I'm happy with the few good ones we got.

Camie on Pointe

The beautiful Camie helped me out with this photo shoot. I needed to get some pictures for assignments for school and I also wanted to do a shoot with a ballerina on pointe. I'm pretty happy with how it all went. In thinking about what I wanted to do for this shoot I kept thinking about the movie The Red Shoes from the late 1940's. The short gist is that the ballerina can't get off her red ballet shoes and they are forcing her to dance. She danced all around the city and couldn't stop. So after thinking of that movie I knew that I wanted to get Camie out into a different setting than what you would normally think of a ballerina being in. I also wanted a beauty amongst the thorns feel. So here are the pictures. Camie thank you so much for helping me out!!!

We got some AWESOME silhouettes once the sun started going down. Seriously in love with them.

The {A} Family!

Baby {T}

A few months ago my church had an auction to help raise money for the youth and their many activities. I was excited to be able to help out and give away a mini session. Because of that auction I was able to photograph this darling little guy. His big sisters were there with us and it was so cute to watch him watch them. Enjoy!

We had him on some abandoned railroad tracks but he had to take him away because he kept eating the rocks around him:) This happens to be one of my favorites

Sibling Love

There once was a big brother named {S} and his little sister {H}. While taking family pictures their mother asked me to get a few of them together, which I was more than happy to do. I placed them on some stairs and started to click away. But {S} was more interested in playing with his toy train.

But {S} was a good boy and turned around when his parents asked him to. All the while his little sister {H} was giving me big beautiful smiles.

{S} then decided that he wanted to share his toy train with little {H}. She got very excited when she saw it.

But it turns out {S} was only teasing and started to pull the train away from {H}

Little {H} wasn't going to put up with her brother's teasing and took the train

{S} wasn't very happy about this, but little {H} was very excited

That's when dad decided to take the train away, and as you can see, {S} had already taken it back from his little sister:)

Big brother {S} decided to make up with his sister and give her a big hug and kiss. {H} wasn't too sure about it though

She tried very hard to wiggle away from her brother

But it's hard when you can't crawl on stairs and you brother is much bigger then you:)

In the end, I was happy that I captured these moments between {S} and {H} rather then a posed picture.

Last week I was able to do {C}'s bridals. She looked so beautiful and her dress is awesome. We did the shoot at the Conservation Garden Park and it offered so many beautiful backgrounds to compliment {C}'s beauty. We wanted her bridals to have a happy, light and natural feel to them and I feel like we accomplished that.The first one is by far one of my favorites.

A Reception

Last month I was asked to shoot a second wedding reception for a cute couple. I loved how they had the dessert table set up! It was so beautiful. We did a few pictures with the bride and groom and a beautiful sunset. I also did a quick mini session with the groom's sister's family. Here's a little look at how it all went.

Wyoming

Over Memorial Weekend we took a day trip to Lyman Wyoming to see a bunch of my husband's family history. We were able to see the old family farm and cabin that has been owned by the family for over 100 years. We also stopped at the Lyman Cemetery to visit the many family members that are buried there. It was a nice day for the family. I had only been to Wyoming one other time and it was just as I remembered it, lots of open land. I received my new camera the day before so I was really excited to take it out for a test run!

I LOVED this engagement session! We did it at the Smith and Edward's junk yard and we found so many great backgrounds and areas to shoot. We were there for about two hours so we could get to all the areas we wanted. C&C were so great to work with. This is only the first post. I loved so many of the pictures that there will be more:)

After a massive snow storm just a few days ago we were getting some major spring fever. I've been planning hikes and dreaming of camping. Finally, yesterday it was 60 degrees! I headed to the park with my little boy and we had a great time! We even got a little pink on our arms:)

I wanted to do a few experiments in abstract photography. I had some that did not turn out well but I got a few good ones. I know that abstract isn't for everyone but I really enjoy shooting these and am happy with how some of them turned out. I will of course put my favorite one at the end:)

I had so much fun taking these pictures. We did a tea party, ate some birthday cake, played with a camera and threw in some Irish Pride:) She did so well putting up with all the things we had her do:)

Today I did a little DIY project. I contructed a tabletop studio. I found this one on Amazon that I would love to own someday. But for now I need new glasses and a new camera:) Here's the one on Amazon

I just used a cardboard box and a sheet and it worked really nicely. I wanted to make it to try my hand at still life and macro photography. I played around with a few things but these two are my favorites.

I was able to meet some extended family that I hadn't met before. They are my second cousins. Christine of C Frances images (whose family this is) did all of the editing. There are a lot of pictures so I am going to break them up into two posts.

I've Moved!

Hi Everyone! I am now located at www.lieselrenaephotography.com. You will still be directed to my blog for the time being. Thanks to all who have been following me and letting me be their photographer. I have to take the time to give out two HUGE shout outs. First Jared and Lacie Jensen! Jared has been my technical support and I own him a huge Thank You! He has helped me so much and I have had A LOT of questions. Lacie is one of my best friends and has been so supportive! She gives me lots of great ideas and was one of the first to sign up for family pictures. Thank you Lacie! P.S. Lacie makes some great bracelets, watch bands and necklace charms. Baby {M}

I had the opportunity to take some pictures of an old firend's baby girl. She was such a little sweetheart. There were times when she didn't want to be put down by her mom (not surprising considering she's only 2 weeks old) but once we got her snuggled into a basket by the fire she was one happy baby.

New York Institute of Photography

I am officially enrolled in and have just started the course in Professional Photography through the New York Institute of Photography. I've heard lots of great things about the course and am very eager to continue my education in photography with them. I am going to keep you all posted about how things are going and post all my photo assigments along with some of the responses I recieve from my professors. I'm very excited about this!

My favorite shot of the day!

I was so excited to do pictures for one of my best friends! I had a great time and am so happy with how they turned out. In fact, I'm so happy with them I posted a lot! Their little girl was so fun to work with (her outfit was so adorable!) and she did a great job out in the cold. I also really loved the location that they chose.

It's always hard to get your own nice family picture when you are the one taking it. I don't like not being behind the camera when the shutter releases. We took pictures for our Christmas card and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out!

My Logo!

About two months ago my grandpa passed away. My family and I returned home to California to attend his funeral and say our goodbyes. At the luncheon I was able to meet some extended family, one being my second cousin Christine. It turns out that Christine and I live pretty close to each other here in Utah. Christine does a great job editing photos and designing logos. I asked her to design a logo for my up and coming business and this is what we ended up with. I really love it. Out of many great designs this one was my favorite and I'm so happy with it! In exchange for the logo I am going to do some family pictures for Christine and her family and I can't wait. Clawfoot Bathtub

Speaking of vintage I wanted to share this awesome clawfoot bathtub. Over the summer we stayed in an adorable B&B that has so much character to it. When we came into our room and looked around the corner we found this great clawfoot bathtub. I immediately took out my camera to snatch a few pictures. It was a bit difficult to shower in but I loved the feel that it gave to the room.

Under Exposed

I took these pictures of my son when we was only eight weeks old. This was when I first started my attempts at shooting portraits and I didn't really know how to use my camera very well. He is in his white outfit from his blessing at our church. These pictures are almost laughable now that I look at them. They are very under exposed. There were taken inside our home with awful lighting. I tried to lighten them up as much as I could in photoshop but there really isn't too much you can do when they are so under exposed. With few options I tried to give them an old vintage feel. I think that they look better then before. P.S. these adorable booties were worn by my husband when he was a baby:)

Photography Class

I recently finished a 5 week photography class which included a photo shoot with the instructor. The class session after the photo shoot we showed our pictures during the class and gave peer reviews. I was a little surprised at the picture that my instructor and classmates liked best out of my bunch (picture below). The class and my instructor liked the sun rays peeking out from behind the building and they liked that I was able to capture the rainbow in the clouds. My instructor gave me some great tips on editing the picture to get it to it's fullest potential.

Before: As you can see the building is really dark in the original picture. That was the main thing that needed to be fixed. My instructor also suggested that I take the lip off of the building off to make it a smooth line. After: I was able to lighten the building and take the lip off.

Gardner Village

We went to Gardner Village yesterday to get some Fall pictures. I LOVE Gardner Village. It is so quaint and especially adorable at Halloween. I'm very happy with how the pictures turned out.

Added Layer

I took this picture of our cute little tree blooming during spring. Now I'll be the first to admit that it's pretty boring. The sky was really gray that day offering a boring background. I also left too much gray space in the picture. I decided to try a few things on Photoshop and ended up adding another layer to the pictureThe second layer is a little enlarged and is distorted to give it a blurred look. It offers a little more for the eye to look at and fills in some of the gray space as well. I feel like it still not the most interesting picture but great for practicing in Photoshop

Thinking of Logan

My husband and I use to live in the great little city of Logan. These pictures were taken when I first got my digital SLR. We loved walking around Logan snapping away.
